Advanced Autism Support

Welcome to “Advanced Autism Support,” an in-depth course designed for experienced professionals, graduate-level students, seasoned caregivers, and those who have already mastered foundational autism knowledge and are ready to deepen their expertise. Building upon the comprehensive foundations established in previous courses—understanding autism, supporting children, communication strategies, and behavior management—this advanced course tackles the complex, nuanced, and often challenging dimensions of autism support that emerge across the lifespan and in specialized contexts. Across ten intensive chapters, we will explore topics rarely covered in introductory training: supporting autistic individuals with profound support needs and co-occurring intellectual disability, navigating complex mental health presentations, addressing trauma and its intersection with autism, supporting sexuality and relationships, ethical decision-making in complex situations, end-of-life considerations, and the cutting edge of autism research and practice. We will grapple with ethical dilemmas, examine controversial topics with nuance, and develop the sophisticated clinical reasoning required to support autistic individuals with complex needs.
